Women Helping Battered Women (WHBW) is an organization, formed in
1974, which is working to end domestic violence against women and children
in Chittenden County, Vermont. According to a 2000 UNICEF study, 20-50%
of the female population of the world will become the victims of domestic
violence. WHBW is a community of men and women from a wide variety
of backgrounds who are dedicated to addressing the problems of battering,
to end violence against all women and children, and to challenge all
forms of oppression. WHBW offers a 24 hour hotline, emergency shelter,
housing advocacy, children's playgroups, legal advocacy, community
education and support groups. WHBW answered 5,000 hotline calls last
year.
